Kill Preview 2 – jovelblog

Kill Preview 2

Development of this Plugin will not be continued. This function is included in WordPress since version 2.2! 

The plugin Kill Preview 2 removes the post preview iframe from the post/page writing screen and adds a preview link.

Just drop the plugin file into your plugin directory and activate it. The preview iframe in the post/page writing screen will now be removed to load this page faster. Additionally there will be a link to the preview in the upper right corner of the screen, which opens a new window to the preview of the edited post/page.

The plugin is based on the Kill Preview plugin by Owen Winkler, that did not work with WordPress 2.1. This version does ;)

The blank page issue is solved now with version 2.1!

    Hi,

    I am having the same error with Kill Preview 2 that I am having with previous kill preview plugin.

    If I go to a link like this:

    http://myblog.com/wp-admin/pos.....8;post=178

    I can only see a blank page.

    When I want to edit any published post I have a blank page. I can write a new post, I can edit comments but I cannot edit a published post with your plugin.

    Hallo,
    ich habe mit “IWG Outline Preview” auch eine Version von “Kill Preview” für Wp 2.1 geschaffen. Per Kommentar von danielsemper bei mir bin ich auf Deine Version aufmerksam gemacht worden.

    Das Problem von danielsemper scheint behoben zu sein – allerdings lag es wohl nicht an unseren Plugins – sondern es gab’ wohl eher Probleme mit seinem Hoster. Ich versuche das mit ihm noch ein bischen zu verifizieren. Sollte es was grundlegend Neues geben, das unsere Plugins betrifft, melde ich mich noch mal.

    Super, herzlichen Dank! :) Der neue WP Adminbereich ist meiner Ansicht nach sowieso nicht so gut gelungen, da kommt das gerade richtig. Ich werd’s am Wochenende mal einbauen und testen.

    Keine Ahnung? Der Link sollte rechts oben über den verschiebbaren Boxen (Kategorien etc.). Natürlich erst, wenn man den Post/die Seite ein erstes Mal gespeichert hat, vorher gibt es ja noch nix zu previewen…

    It is solved now, it was Dreamhost upgrading PHP to the latest subversion.

    Hi there. This is an awesome plugin, but it has a fatal flaw for me. You see, I serve my WordPress site with the mime-type application/xhtml+xml, which tells the browser to use an error-intolerant XML parser to parse the XHTML being generated.

    In the code for the Post Preview link generated by the plugin, it is not escaping the ampersand (&) properly in the URL, thus invalidating the XHTML and causing the site to break on that page, forcing me to fix the error before I can access it. Simply wrapping the URL with the function wp_specialchars() before it gets to the href attribute fixes the problem.

    If you like, I will make a .diff file, but it should be easy enough to fix.

    Getting the same issue as danielsemper above – writes pages and posts ok but when you go to edit them makes a blank screen. running wp 2.1 / other than that fatal flaw – great plugin.

    The “blank page” issue is unsolved yet, but there is an idea, that it has something to do with the preg_replace function. The Perl Compatible Regular Expression (PCRE) support has to be enabled, which is not the default setting for PHP versions before 4.2. Maybe you could check your php.ini (or phpinfo() ) for this setting to proove this assumption?

    Great plugin – that preview by default was just silly. Now when I go to edit a post the wysiwyg menu is displayed whereas before it didn’t work properly.

    No. I don’t test my plugin on alpha, beta or nightly builds. I guess 2.2 is not very stable yet? When it’s officially released and the plugin doesn’t work, I’ll fix it immediately… ;)

    mich dünkt es könnte etwas mit wp-cache zu tun haben, ist aber nur ne wilde vermutung?!

    Sorry, I can’t see any problem with the plugin. As it works for so many other users, it must be something in your local configuration. Maybe it’s another plugin, I don’t know. What you can do is deactivate other plugins one by one and check every time, if Kill Preview is still producing the blank page. If you find anything, please tell me, maybe I can fix this then. It’s hard to test the error if you can’t reproduce it…

    Also ich hab’ gerade mal etwas Zeit gefunden um das problem der weißen Seite näher zu beleuchten:

    wer Zugang zum php-error-log hat sollte mal nach “Aufruf” der weißen Seite in selbiges schauen :-)

    Das Problem ist, dass Kill-Preview den Prozess zur Erstellung des “wp_cache_object” – so scheints zumindest – stört.

    Fügt man nun einen simplen check in wp-includes/cache.php ein (zeile 31 in wp 2.12)
    “if (is_object($wp_object_cache))” dann scheint das problem behoben zu sein.

    Viel besser wäre es jedoch, wenn das im Plugin selbst abgehandelt werden würde.
    Da hab ich aber noch keine Möglichkeit gefunden.

    Doesn’t work for me either… getting a blank page whenever I click on edit for any post/page on the manage posts or manage page tab in the admin.

    On a side note it did work for whenever I make a new post or page. so it might be clashing with something involved with “edit” …

    I dont know php code very well so I’m kinda hanging on ya… sorry!

    I was so happy discovering your plug-in. Unfortunaly, I have the blank page issue too. I tryed the plug with all the other plug-ins turned off (ex: SpotMilk and DropMenuSpotMilk, NoPingWait, and others…) without any luck.
    I am using WP2.1.

    The blank page issue will have high priority now. After I changed my hosting provider yesterday, I also have the blank page thing. This is giving me the possibility to investigate myself. So you are lucky, I will look into this very soon…

    Well, finally I think that I found out what was responsible for the “blank page bug”. Some needed functions in my plugin (especially “get_permalink”) could not be executed in PHP5, I can only guess why, because I don’t want to look to deep into the WordPress core.

    Anyway, I had to find another solution without using the built-in WP functions and I think I found one. I would be very glad, if you could help me testing as I have no idea, if this is working fine on any PHP and WP version…

    You can download the beta version here (right-click and save). If the script works fine, I would be really really glad, if you could leave a comment here with WP version and PHP version (if accessible for you). And of course also, if any old or new bugs occur!

    das bringt mich auf eine andere Idee – gibt es ein Plugin mit dem ich nur für bestimmte Links eine Preview im IFrame lade ?
    Die lädt doch allgemein immer mit, also nicht erst beim MouseOver, oder ?

    Ops, dein Plugin entfernt das IFrame Preview aus dem Adminmenu ?
    Sorry in dem Fall hab ich mich vertan – ich suche irgendwie ein Plugin, dass externe Links aus einem Post schon in einem IFrame vorlädt und bei Mouseover eine Preview zeigt.
    Die Idee ist noch nicht ganz ausgearrt und da fiel mir gerade dein Post auf.

    da kenn ich nur die diversen plugins, die eine preview eines links in einem javascript-layer (popup) zeigen. mit snapper oder snap oder wie das heißt. find ich aber für die leser ganz ganz grausam!

    Stimme ich zu, snap oder so öffnet auf mouseover ein Thumb, das mag ich auch nicht so.
    Ich sag ja, meine Idee ist irgendwie noch nicht ausgereift und ich hatte halt “IFrame” bei dir gelesen, was so ein ein wenig in die Richtung geht, also eben ausgewählte Zielseiten schon vorladen und bei Klick in einem neuen Fenster zeigen.

    Dürfte überhaupt kein Problem sein, dass mit JavaScript hinzubekommen. Allein, der Nutzen fehlt mir. Wo soll ich einen iframe im Blog so unterbringen, dass er von jeder Stelle gut sichtbar und dazu noch ausreichend groß ist, dass die dargestellte Seite auch leserlich ist?

    I am interested in the topics discussed but have been feeling a little intimidated by the thought of the work.
    I knew there was a way to do this but I didn’t want to have to use a forum software for this functionality, because, the actual forum aspect would have been superfluous… don’t add more than you need seems to be a good policy

    I would also like to know how to deactivate the ‘snap shot’ preview that occurs when you make links. It can often slow the site down– not in loading– but in browsing and accessing. Personally, I’ve never really seen the use of it except that it seems pretty cool that you can have a small preview of what a site looks like before you click to go there. I doubt whether anyone really finds it useful, more than just eye-candyish.

    In addition to what online shopping said, I’d like to know how to disable the automatic gravatar that appear in each of the comment I make. Just recently, each time I comment on blogs, a picture of me appears beside my comment. It’s like I’ve used it somewhere but I can no longer remember it.

    Please help.

    Just cancel your account at gravatar.com with the mail address you use for comments.
    If a blog uses gravatar and knows your email address from commenting, it looks up the email address at gravatar.com. If this address is known and a picture is available at gravatar, it is shown in the blog…
